Annual Kirkton Veterinary Clinic’s Embryo Transfer and OPU/IVF Data

TRENDS WE ARE SEEING
1) 2025 marked the first year that there were slightly more OPU collections than ET collections at KVC! A trend that we knew was coming based on the statistics observed over the past 10 years in the USA. We anticipate this trend to continue with OPU collection numbers continuing to increase.
2) Decline in the number of conventional ET produced embryos exported but a steady increase in the number of IVF produced embryos exported. This trend directly mirrors #1 above. However, the overall trend of embryos being exported continues to decline.
3) Embryo sales – with the increase in embryo numbers being produced, we’re seeing more embryos for sale. More availability of quality genetics has resulted in a softening of most embryo prices, except for embryos from very elite donors, which remain strong. If you’re looking to add new genetics to your herd, there’s never been a better time!
4) Recipient Costs – as with all supply and demand, recipients are at a premium due to their lack of availability. Ensuring recipients are properly managed becomes even more important with these high value animals!
Beef Embryos Available
As a reminder, we have purebred beef embryos in inventory for the following scenarios:
- Problem breeders
- Higher pregnancy rate than AI during periods of heat stress
- Purebred beef calves bring a premium when sold
Beef embryos are $150/embryo
